Phil's journey into massage

Like a lot of people working in the world of health and wellbeing, I became a massage therapist to sort MYSELF out. I had a seemingly endless run of injuries, exacerbated mainly by my passion for football, but created by a combination of childhood asthma, overtraining and as a young man, possibly an overreaction to the stresses of life. What started turning things around for me was a visit to a highly recommended massage therapist who not only gave me relief from my agonising lower back pain, but encouraged me to change direction and head into the massage industry myself. Thank you Di, I owe you a lot! In February 2007 I graduated as a Remedial Massage Therapist from the Canterbury College of Natural Medicine and have never looked back. I have attended quite a few post-grad courses since then, but most of my continued learning has been related to the interaction and rapport with my beloved clients. And long may it continue!

How can I help?

My style of massage therapy incorporates a blend of NMT (neuromuscular therapy for those painful triggerpoints), myofascial release, sports massage and good old deep tissue swedish massage. These modalities are applied as needed, initially to achieve a decent amount of pain relief, but then we try to focus on what actually is causing the pain - how do we alleviate the pain and stop it coming back? This is where it becomes interesting, and in the end it often comes down to discovering and attempting to release tensions in our bodies, through massage, movement and relaxation - both physical and emotional. This is very much a team effort, depending what the individual is seeking. I WILL listen to you - often all we need is an hour of zoning out on the massage table while I work out your knots and sore bits. Let me know how I can help!
